Required Basis Background Jobs

Required Basis Background Jobs

There are a number of background jobs that should run periodically in a production R/3 System. These jobs perform housekeeping chores, such as deleting outdated spool requests of background jobs.

You’ll need to schedule each of these jobs for periodic execution according to the schedule shown in the following table.

This list does not include housekeeping and reorganization programs that belong to the R/3 applications. Please see the customizing system for more information on such programs.

Please follow the naming conventions shown in the table. This helps SAP to check that these programs are properly scheduled in the event of problems.

SAP_REORG_UPDATERECORDS

You need to run this job ONLY:

· If you have deactivated automatic deletion of update records after they have been processed. By default, automatic deletion is activated. This function is controlled by system profile parameter rdisp/vb_delete_after_execution; or

· If you have deactivated automatic deletion of incomplete update records (records partially created when an update header is created and saved but the generating transaction then ends abnormally). By default, automatic deletion is activated. This function is controlled by system profile parameter rdisp/vbreorg; or

· If you have deactivated processing of U2 update components after the processing of the associated U1 updates. This function is controlled by system profile parameter rdisp/vb_v2_start.

Job Step Language

If your R/3 System runs with an Arabian, Russian (Cyrillic), or Asian character set, then you may need to change the language specified in the standard background jobs listed above. Languages are assigned to jobs based on job steps. Be sure that the language specified in the job step definition in each of these jobs is set to EN, for English.

This change is required because not all languages are available with all code pages. If the language specified in the job is not available, then the background job will not run.

Authorizations and Client Specificity

Some of the jobs listed above work with client-specific objects. These jobs require special R/3 authorizations and work only within the client in which they are run.

With the exception of SAP_COLLECTOR_FOR_PERFMONITOR, jobs that work with client-independent objects do not require that special users be present or that they run under special authorizations. The client-independent jobs act in all clients of your R/3 System.

The table below shows which jobs are client-specific and which user and authorization requirements apply.
